Salon Start (Certificate II in Hairdressing)

The Salon Start program is a new approach to entry-level training. Incorporating the WRH20109 Certificate II in Hairdressing, Salon Start will provide you with a broad overview of hairdressing, whilst allowing you to develop creative and practical skills, within a real salon setting. The result is a training approach that is highly interactive, caters to various learning styles, whilst providing a solid foundation in hair theory and practice.

The Salon Start program is very hands-on and has a strong employability skills focus. You will learn how to prepare clients for salon services, maintain tools and equipment, dry hair to shape, apply temporary hair colour, work effectively in the retail environment, all whilst gaining knowledge of the hairdressing industry. The Salon Start program also enables you to learn valuable work and life skills such as time management, communication and personal development skills - helping you to become a confident, competent  and professional hairdresser.

To complement the training offered in this course, you will be offered one of the following Schwarzkopf sponsored workshops:

(i)    BC Hairtherapy’s Care & massage
Know all there is to know about schwarzkopf Professional’s BC Hairtherapy Care products. learn about the key ‘sub-line’ technologies within the range and how they nurture hair back to its best before preparing a client for shampooing, treating, and performing head, neck & shoulder massage.

(ii)   Essential Styling with Osis
Learn the essential skills to styling hair working with Schwarzkopf Professional’s Osis styling range. Learn which product to use to create a particular style, and then how to change it! Responsibly identify and prescribe an assortment of products, then practice essential blow drying skills to complete a hairstyle.

WHO CAN APPLY
The program caters for any person interested in gaining an entry-level qualification into hairdressing. You must be an Australian Citizen, or have Permanent Residency.

DELIVERY AND ASSESSMENT
Training is conducted both in a friendly classroom setting and a real salon environment. Assessment may include, but is not limited to: practical workshops, written work, and group discussions.

WORK PLACEMENT
Essential to this course, you will be required to undertake a work placement. IMVC will provide support and assistance to ensure that you secure a quality work placement.

QUALIFICATION AND RECOGNITION
Completion of the 12 week course qualifies you for a WRH20109 Certificate II in Hairdressing which will enable you to apply for a hairdressing apprenticeship or undertake further study.

EMPLOYMENT PROSPECTS
Nationally, Australia is experiencing a shortage of hairdressers, making this an occupation that has excellent prospects for employment.

PROGRAM COST
This training is delivered with Victorian and Government Funding (subject to eligibility). There are, however, additional costs to the applicant. Please contact IMVC for further information. As part of this course, you will receive a professional hairdressing kit and resource manuals.
