NDCO Brochure [.pdf - 163KB]
The Australian Government’s National Disability Coordination Officer (NDCO) Program aims to address the barriers that people with a disability, aged 15 -64, face by providing additional support for them to participate fully in education, training and employment.
The NDCO Program’s goals are to:
- Improve transitions for people with a disability from their school or community into post-school education, training and employment.
- Increase participation by people with a disability in higher education and vocational education and training and employment.
- Establish better links between schools, universities, TAFEs, training providers and disability service providers so that they can work together to provide the best possible assistance for people with a disability.
What services does an NDCO provide?
- Information, coordination and referral activities for people with a disability
- Transition planning assistance for individuals, families and practitioners in relation to the range of available post-school education, training and employment options
- Link individuals and organisations to local support services
- Resource development and training
- Raise awareness amongst education providers, employers and the community of the issues facing people with a disability
A national network of NDCOs works within 31 specific regions across Australia. The IMVC provides the NDCO service for Inner City Melbourne, North Middle and Outer Melbourne and Hume City. This includes the Local Government Areas of Port Phillip, Stonnington, Yarra, Melbourne, Darebin, Banyule, Nillumbik, Whittlesea and Hume.
